Place of origin
England
England's contribution runs through its mills and its tailors. Medieval broadcloth financed the wool towns, Manchester wove gingham and corduroy at industrial scale, and the patterns of London tailoring, the pinstripes, windowpanes, and tattersalls, were named on Savile Row and at the horse market.
