Georgette
Georgette is a sheer crepe: a plain weave of tightly twisted yarns alternating in direction, which pucker the cloth into a fine, springy crinkle that is dull, slightly rough, and bouncier than chiffon. It sits between chiffon and crepe, more opaque and more textured than the first, lighter and sheerer than the second. Named for a Paris dressmaker, georgette drapes in soft fluid folds that made it a staple of flowing dresses, blouses, and the bias-cut gowns of the 1930s.

Named for
Named for Georgette de la Plante, an early twentieth century French modiste credited with the cloth.
