Basket Weave
Basket weave is plain weave worked in pairs or groups: two or more warp ends and weft picks interlace as if they were single threads, producing a checkerboard of small thread blocks. Grouping the threads makes the cloth more porous and pliable than a true plain weave, with a surface texture you can see. Oxford shirting and many canvases and monk's cloths are basket weaves.
Named for
Named for its resemblance to the over-under pattern of woven basketry.
