Plate No. 008 · pattern

Awning Stripe

The awning stripe is a bold pattern of broad, equal bands in a saturated color alternating with cream. It takes its name from the canopies of shops and cafes, where heavy striped canvas shed sun and rain. The same wide stripe carries over to deck chairs and beach tents.

Named for

Named for the shop and cafe awnings the broad stripe traditionally covered.
